Vacationing in Taiwan does not have to be expensive and goes into deep wallet. In this island country, there are many cheap and attractive tourist destinations, many of which are free. One of them is Pier2 Art Center in Kaohsiung, Taiwan's second largest city in the southern part of the island. Pier2 Art Center is a former Kaohsiung old warehouse port complex which is the largest port city in Taiwan. When the Taiwanese government relocated the loading and unloading site to the location of the new port, the old warehouse buildings were not demolished, but were deliberately transformed into tourist attractions for the center of art activities for young children. An old but well-preserved former warehouse building has been converted into a gallery of collections of art items. Many sculptures, paintings, murals, gundam statues, miniatures, and other contemporary arts are scattered in this vast former warehouse. For those who like selfies, Pier2 Art Center is a paradise. Not too much, if Pier2 Art Center is dubbed the most famous tourist destination for young people of Taiwan. What's interesting about Pier2 Art Center, all the architecture of the building is left as the original like a tour of the old cities in many countries. The circular railroad network that extends around the area is still very intact, while the old European steam locomotive remains intentionally placed piled in many corners of the building, thus creating a classic feel. Taiwan relies heavily on railways as transportation to support its industrial sector. Iron rails ran out to almost every warehouse in the old port, but then the rail network and warehousing has not been used since 2000. The largest main warehouse which was once a place to store sugar was transformed into a museum. Former old buildings that do not function as art galleries are used as locations for selling food and souvenirs. Pier2 Art Center is on the seashore and close to the Love River, so the air temperature is relatively cool even when it's hot. It took 3 hours to walk through the entire Pier2 Art Center. If you are lazy to walk along the vast area, there are mini trains with several carriages that can be climbed by children and adults. In addition, there are many bicycle rentals whose prices are still very affordable. Pier-2 Art Center is located on Dayong Road, Yancheng District, not far from downtown Kaohsiung. Besides buses, there is an MRT line from the city center to this area, making it very easy for tourists. To get to this port city from Taipei, you can use a fast train that can be reached in about 2 hours by fast train.
